BPS standard

Biodiversity Performance Score

A tool for assessing the biodiversity performance of the built environment, producing a score from A to G, intended for ESG reporting (CSRD, ESRS E4, SFDR, taxonomy) and for decision support.

Chain of responsibility

  • The BPS standard is owned by NORMATYS, which develops and maintains it; its versions are settled by the Biodiversity Standard Council.
  • The BPS trademark is owned by NORMAXIS.
  • The tool is operated by IRICE, a third-party assessment body, on biodiversity-performance.com. The assessment gives rise to a documented report and a score statement.

Charter on the use of the BPS score

The A to G score may be communicated in B2B contexts and in regulatory reporting without restriction: exchanges between professionals, investment files, CSRD/ESRS E4, SFDR and taxonomy reports.

As soon as it is used in a commercial communication aimed at buyers or tenants, it must be accompanied by a statement of its nature (a score produced by an assessment tool), of its scope (it does not constitute a certification and is not covered by any accreditation) and of the identity of the body that established it (IRICE). Failing that, the score becomes a sustainability sign subject to the third-party certification requirement of Directive (EU) 2024/825, and it is the trader publishing it who answers for it.

Recommended wording: « BPS score [grade], established by IRICE under the BPS standard. The BPS is an assessment tool producing a score; it does not constitute a certification. »

Access to the standard
